CSM Hansen



Command Sergeant Major Edgar J. Hansen is the senior enlisted advisor of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Wisconsin Army National Guard. As such, he advises the brigade commander on a variety of matters important to the enlisted force. Command Sgt. Maj. Hansen is a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with a bachelor’s degree cum laude in Business Administration and a minor in communication arts from Silver Lake College in 1984 and a 1997 master’s in management and organizational behavior from the same institution. His military education includes armor crewman and master gunner classes plus the Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Fort Knox, Ky., basic and advanced NCO courses, the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas, and other courses. Command Sgt. Maj. Hansen enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968 and served 12 years on active duty as an infantryman, mortarman and door-gunner, including more than 18 months in Vietnam. Having left
the Army in 1980, he resumed service in February 1990, joining Company E, 2nd Battalion,
27th Infantry, Wisconsin Army National Guard. He continued in the 2-127th Infantry for more than 13 years and became the battalion’s command sergeant major in April 2003. That September he deployed to Afghanistan as an embedded trainer and combat advisor to the Afghan national army, returning stateside in August 2004. He deployed again, this time to Iraq serving as an advisor to the Iraqi Army, from May through November 2005. In 2006 he was assigned as command sergeant major for the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, which is scheduled to deploy for service in Iraq early in 2009. His awards include the Combat Infantry Badge with star, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with one bronze oak leaf cluster, the Air Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with two bronze oak leaf clusters, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, the Good Conduct Medal with two bronze loops, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with 3 bronze oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 4, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Wisconsin Service Ribbon, and the Wisconsin National Guard Write Medal with numeral 9.
